Redefine Green

Project Type Urban Design - Studio 7

Year February 2023

Location Kiryat Eliezer, Haifa, Israel

In a period, in which the number of dwellings, becomes the main factor in the Israeli urban planning, the architectural product seems to be a part of a production line, that lack communication with the urban environment, in which it is located in.

This typology produces wide open spaces, that mostly function as parking lots or remain empty without any human activity.

The zoning effect just makes it worse - it creates define areas without any mixed uses. In fact, the combination of these two elements leaves no choice to the public spaces, and they are dying slowly. Nowadays, Kiryat Eliezer in Haifa has a lot of public areas that are in a bad condition and maintenance, therefore they are not properly utilized. In addition, the orientation of the buildings doesn’t make it better. Kiryat Eliezer has a new urban renewal program, but it hasn’t a spirit of a real positive change.

What is the typology that will allow a spatial definition of the public spaces and a vast variety of them, in different levels of privateness?

My project, Redefine Green, is trying to show that we can plan our cities differently. By using a different morphology- we can create defined open spaces and enable variety of different activities.
